A revival of Dreamgirls on Broadway is being planned for fall 2026, with five-time Tony Award nominee Camille A. Brown (Hell's Kitchen, Gypsy, for colored girls..., Choir Boy) set to direct and choreograph.

Created by Tom Eyen (book and lyrics) and Henry Krieger (music), Dreamgirls follows a trio of Black female singers — Effie White, Deena Jones, and Lorrell Robinson — on their rise to stardom. The musical, inspired by the success of R&B groups like The Supremes, features popular songs like “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” “One Night Only,” and the title track.

Director/co-choreographer Michael Bennett's original production, which ran on Broadway from 1981-85, won six Tonys, including Best Book of a Musical and Best Actress in a Musical for breakout star Jennifer Holliday as Effie. Dreamgirls went on to have a brief, Tony-nominated Broadway revival in 1987 and was adapted into an Oscar-winning 2006 movie starring Beyoncé, Anika Noni Rose, and Jennifer Hudson (winning the Oscar for her film debut).

A worldwide search will take place in the coming months to find the three stars of the 2026 Broadway revival. Additional information about the Dreamgirls cast and creative team has yet to be announced.
