Denée Benton, Joshua Henry to return to 'Into the Woods' on Broadway
The acclaimed revival plays through January 8.
They're returning to the woods! Beginning November 22, Denée Benton and Joshua Henry will return to the cast of Into the Woods. The show runs at the St. James Theatre on Broadway through January 8.
Benton will play Cinderella, a role she originated when this Into the Woods production premiered off Broadway at New York City Center in May. She assumes the role from Krysta Rodriguez, who departs the production on November 20.
Henry will return to the role of Rapunzel's Prince, who he played at New York City Center and on Broadway. He replaces Andy Karl, who assumed the role on October 11. He also departs November 20.
Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Into the Woods centers on the journeys of multiple fairytale characters to happily ever after — and what happens afterward. Cinderella, Little Red Ridinghood, a Baker and his Wife, a Witch, and more all appear in this Tony Award-winning musical.
The show premiered in 1987, and this revival began as a two-week Off-Broadway engagement as part of New York City Center's Encores! program for seldom revived musicals. Its Broadway transfer received multiple extensions following universal acclaim; a five-star New York Theatre Guide review calls Into the Woods "bewitchingly beautiful and impeccably performed."
The current cast also includes Patina Miller and Montego Glover alternating as the Witch, Stephanie J. Block as the Baker’s Wife, Brian d’Arcy James as the Baker, Gavin Creel as the Wolf/Cinderella’s Prince, Katy Geraghty as Little Red Ridinghood, Jim Stanek as the Steward, Ann Harada as Jack’s Mother, Cole Thompson as Jack, and Alysia Velez as Rapunzel.
