Musical stars Jamie Muscato (Cabaret, The Great Gatsby, Moulin Rouge! The Musical) and Sharon Rose (Sylvia, Hamilton) will reprise the lead roles of Dex and Em, respectively, while Olivier nominee Max Webster — known for recent West End successes including The Importance of Being Earnest and Macbeth — will direct. Phantom of the Opera assembles its 40th anniversary cast

It’s a big year for long-running show anniversaries: Wicked turns 20 in September, while The Mousetrap is currently celebrating a whopping 75 years in the West End. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s stirring The Phantom of the Opera about a tortured musical genius and his muse, the soprano Christine Daaé, is also celebrating a big birthday, clocking up 40 years in the West End this October. To mark the occasion, a returning cast will take to the stage including Jordan Donica, Beatrice Penny-Touré, Rhys Whitfield, and Sierra Boggess.

James Norton to play Hamlet in the West End

He was most recently seen on stage in Ivo Van Hove’s production of Hanya Yanagihara’s A Little Life, and now James Norton will play Shakespeare’s tragic prince, Hamlet. The production will be directed by Thomas Ostermeier, who recently directed Cate Blanchett in The Seagull at the Barbican.
