See this riveting new version of the classic play about work, technology, and purpose. SAG Award nominee Sarita Choudhury (Homeland), SAG Award winner Michael Cyril Creighton (Spotlight), Tony Award nominee Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent), and Oscar nominee Jennifer Tilly (Bullets Over Broadway) star in this story about a worker who, one day, is replaced by a machine.
Experience The Adding Machine off Broadway to see a starry cast retell Elmer L. Rice's timeless play, now featuring revisions by Thomas Bradshaw. The Adding Machine plays off Broadway at The New Group at their new home, Theatre at St. Clement's, starting this March for a limited run only.
In The Adding Machine, Mr. Zero works a dull job he struggles to fulfill, just as he struggles to connect with his wife and work wife. But one day, his boss tells him he is being replaced by a new machine, and soon Mr. Zero must carve a new path and engineer his own fate before it's too late.
Over a century old, The Adding Machine is a wild satire that has not lost any of its bite, especially in a time of fear of artificial intelligence and technology changing the workforce. Scott Elliott, the founding artistic director of The New Group, directs this new production that runs this spring. The play opens The New Group's latest season.
The 2007 Columbia Encyclopedia of Modern Drama called the play "a landmark of American Expressionism," and the work went on to influence writers like Tennessee Williams and then became a film in 1969. Now, it is back in the city with a fresh take for a timely revival.

“A timeless masterpiece brought to life by superb acting”
Audiences are raving about this stunning revival of a 1925 classic that feels startlingly relevant in our age of automation and corporate culture. The intimate theater setting creates an electric atmo...
Jennifer Tilly is a treasure that needs to land more broadway shows… and tv shows… films. I need more Jennifer Tilly overall. This theater needs to fix the damn AC!
A beautiful play that shows the reckonings of a relatable human being smothered by his life. Modern audiences will be able to find something of themselves in him.
The special effects are worth going to see this play.
