Get The Reservoir tickets when they go on sale on New York Theatre Guide to see the off-Broadway premiere of a shining new voice: Jake Brasch. The Reservoir plays off Broadway this winter at Atlantic Theater Company, the downtown company known for catapulting hit shows like Spring Awakening, The Band's Visit, and Kimberly Akimbo to Broadway. Now, the theatre welcomes a rising voice: Brasch is recent graduate of the Playwriting Program at The Juilliard School, and their new play is set to make a splash.
In The Reservoir off Broadway, Josh is a mess, Josh is getting sober, and Josh is moving back home to Denver. However, after years of drinking, the fog in his brain won’t lift. Struggling with memory loss, confusion, and shame, Josh finds himself strangely in step with his four aging grandparents. Let the comedy and weirdness ensue.
Brasch is a queer, sober, Jewish artist from Colorado, making this premiere work a deeply relatable one for this award-winning writer. Brasch is the recipient of Vineyard Theatre’s 2025 Paula Vogel Award, the Kennedy Center’s 2024 Paula Vogel Playwriting Award, and the inaugural Terrence McNally Recovery Commission. The Reservoir also won Best New Play at the 2025 Henry Awards.
The play is also making the rounds: its world premiere was co-produced by the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Alliance Theatre, and Geffen Playhouse, with a second production presented at Berkeley Rep this fall. Now, it comes to New York, directed by Shelley Butler, who staged the world premiere of Lucas Hanth's hit comedy A Doll's House, Part 2.
Get ready for an intimate, moving, and deeply funny portrait of what it means to start over again, with your aging grandparents. It's never too late to restart: tickets to The Reservoir in New York will be available here soon.
