See Academy Award winner Tom Hanks back on stage in New York for the first time in more than a decade. This World of Tomorrow plays at The Shed for a limited run starting in October. A new play about a time-traveling quest for true love, This World of Tomorrow is written by Hanks (based on his short stories) and James Glossman and directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon (Fences).
See This World of Tomorrow off Broadway to see Hanks in this dynamic new love story. A two-time Oscar winner known for his work in Sleepless in Seattle, Big, Apollo 13, The Polar Express, and Forrest Gump, Hanks plays Bert Allenberry, a scientist longing for the past. The story is set in the future at the end of the 21st century, when Bert embarks on a time-traveling quest for true love. However, on his journeys he keeps returning — again, and again, and again — to one special day at the 1939 New York World’s Fair in Queens.
“To explore the themes of love and yearning, and the struggles of today as we carry with us the eternal memories of the past, in such a place as The Shed, strikes me as a one-of-a-kind experience not unlike the World’s Fair of 1939,” says Hanks in a statement.
"It will be a joy to experience Tom leading the cast on stage in this time-traveling adventure of the limitless power of love and the distance one is willing to go for it," Leon added.
As he hops across time and discovers many paths forward, what journey will Bert choose for himself? Find out in this story that blends technology and desire, nostalgia and history.
