Home on Broadway Information

Samm-Art Williams's Tony Award-nominated play comes home to Broadway for the first time since its 1980 premiere. Roundabout Theatre Company presents the first revival of Home at the American Airlines Theatre, directed by Tony winner Kenny Leon. Get Home tickets on New York Theatre Guide.

Once called a "road trip of the soul" by the Washington Post, the Home play follows the one man, Cephus Miles, on his quest to find a place to belong. When his sweetheart, Pattie Mae, marries another man and sets Cephus adrift, he sets off from the rural South to the urban North and back. The journey takes him through love, faith, war, jail, and change.

Home is Samm-Art Williams's only Broadway play and his second Broadway credit following his 1975 performance in The First Breeze of Summer. Williams's play was nominated for the Best Play Tony Award, and Charles Brown was nominated for Best Actor for his performance as Cephus.

Before Home's Broadway premiere, the Negro Ensemble Company staged the show in 1979, when it won Best Play at the Outer Critics Circle and Villager Awards.

The Home Broadway revival is one of many recent credits for director Kenny Leon. Since winning a 2020 Tony Award for directing the Best Play Revival A Soldier's Play for Roundabout, he's also staged the Tony-winning revival of Topdog/Underdog; Ohio State Murders starring Audra McDonald; and the critically acclaimed revival of Purlie Victorious with Leslie Odom, Jr.
