About Stranger Sings! The Parody Musical

Stranger Sings! The Parody Musical is back to turn New York upside down. Get Stranger Sings! The Parody Musical tickets on New York Theatre Guide.

Stranger Sings! is a musical based on the characters and universe of the hit Netflix show Stranger Things, a supernatural thriller about a portal to a hellish other world that opens in the otherwise sleepy town of Hawkins, Indiana. But this parody focuses less on epic interdimensional battles and high drama, and more on the show's nostalgic aesthetic and why in the world these children are able to wander around unsupervised and put themselves in so much danger. (There are interdimensional battles, too, but the demogorgons sing in this version.)

You'll still see all your favorite characters represented, though: Eleven, Mike, Lucas, Dustin, Will, Joyce, Hopper, and even Barb, who may finally get her justice. Love triangles and '80s pop culture references abound in Stranger Sings! The Parody Musical, which plays them up as campily and musically as possible. Some of the songs include "The Dad I Never Had," "Where There's a Will," and "Barb's Turn." If you want an idea of what to expect before heading into the Upside Down at Playhouse 46, you can stream the original cast album online.

Stranger Sings! The Parody Musical premiered as a one-night concert at Feinstein's/54 Below in October 2018. Three years later, a full-fledged version of Stranger Sings! off Broadway premiered at The Players Theatre, winning seven BroadwayWorld Off-Broadway Awards, including Best New Musical, in 2021. The show is also opening in London and Melbourne in 2022.

Jonathan Hogue wrote the book, music, and lyrics for Stranger Sings!; the musical marks his New York writing debut. He reunites with director Nick Flatto, who directed the first production of Stranger Sings! in New York and who also directed Rocktopia on Broadway.

You may have binged all four seasons of Stranger Things on Netflix, but you've never seen it like this. Tickets to Stranger Sings! The Parody Musical are available now.

If Stranger Things Twitter, theatre Twitter, and '80s kids all created a show together, it would look something like Stranger Sings! The Parody Musical.Jonathan Hogue, who wrote the show's book, music, and lyrics, seems to represent all those culture niches in one. Stranger Sings! is not only stuffed to the brim with nostalgic...
