Heart Information
British actress Jade Anouka, known for His Dark Materials and many stage performances in London's West End, brings her poetic one-woman show off Broadway with Audible Theater. Get Heart tickets on New York Theatre Guide.
Heart is a play about how a woman learns to find love with others and herself again after heartbreak. Anouka shares her own story of being married and divorced by age 28, and how she faced her own self-imposed insecurities and limitations in the wake of the divorce. As she picked her life back up, she had to figure out how to overcome these and open her heart again. The poetic Heart also tells how Anouka ended up finding love again in an unexpected place, with an equally unexpected person. The show explores the idea that "every new story begins as another one ends."
The world premiere of Heart off Broadway marks Anouka's debut as a playwright. What began as a stream of her feelings written out in 2018 became the first draft of Heart, and she has worked on preparing it for the stage for the past four years. Anouka has also had a long career as an actress, having appeared as Ruta Skadi on His Dark Materials and in many London and New York stage performances.
She's played in multiple Shakespeare shows at London's Donmar Warehouse that later transferred to St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn, and she was most recently in Cock in London's West End. She starred alongside Bridgerton's Jonathan Bailey and Rocketman's Taron Egerton in the production directed by Marianne Elliott, a Tony nominee for the latest Broadway revival of Company.
