The new musical Smash will open on Broadway in the 2024-25 season, based on the NBC series of the same name. A venue, cast and performance dates are to be announced.
The production will feature a book by Tony Award-winning writer Bob Martin and the Tony Award-nominated writer Rick Elice. Music is by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who wrote over two dozen songs for the television show including "Let Me Be Your Star", "The 20th Century Fox Mambo" and "Big Finish". Joshua Bergasse will reprise his Emmy Award-winning choreography for the stage production.
Smash received its television debut in 2012, with a star cast including Katharine McPhee, Megan Hilty, Christian Borle and Debra Messing. Even though the show only aired for two seasons, the show's popularity continues to grow. The cast performed a benefit concert of the song's show at the Minskoff Theatre in June 2015, selling out in 15 minutes.
