'David Byrne's American Utopia' to close April 3
The Tony Award-winning show is playing its second Broadway engagement.
Everybody's coming to David Byrne's house — but only through April 3. The second Broadway engagement of David Byrne's American Utopia has announced its final extension on Broadway. The show first played the Hudson Theatre from 2019 to 2020 before reopening at the St. James Theatre on September 17, 2021.
Americanm Utopia is titled after David Byrne's 2018 album of the same name. The show is a stripped-down concert starring Byrne, who sings his hits from that album and his famous career as the frontman for the Talking Heads, interspersed with personal anecdotes and observations about the world we live in. He has toured internationally with the show, which also features an 11-person ensemble of musicians and backup vocalist/dancers, before bringing it to Broadway.
In addition to his work with the Talking Heads, which earned Byrne a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Byrne has also received multiple accolades for American Utopia, including a special 2020 Tony Award and six Emmy nominations for the filmed version of the Broadway show, which is available to stream on HBO Max.
