The New York premiere of Lauren Yee's Cambodian Rock Band is scheduled to begin performances at Pershing Square Signature Center on February 4, 2020.
Signature Theatre has announced a 1-week extension for its upcoming New York premiere of Cambodian Rock Band, written by Lauren Yee and directed by Chay Yew, which is scheduled to begin previews at Pershing Square Signature Center's Irene Diamond Stage on February 4, 2020, ahead of an official opening on February 24. The limited engagement will now run through March 15, 2020 (instead of March 8).
Synopsis: "Guitars tuned. Mic checked. Get ready to rock. This electric new play with music tells the story of a Khmer Rouge survivor returning back to Cambodia for the first time in thirty years as his daughter prepares to help prosecute one of Cambodia's most infamous war criminals. Backed by a live band playing contemporary Dengue Fever hits and classic Cambodian oldies, this thrilling story toggles back and forth in time, as father and daughter face the music of the past. Cambodian Rock Band is an intimate rock epic about family secrets, set against a dark chapter of Cambodian history."
As previously reported, the cast of Cambodian Rock Band includes Francis Jue (as Duch), Abraham Kim (as Rom), Jane Lui (as Pou), Joe Ngo (as Chum), Courtney Reed (as Neary/Sothea), and Moses Villarama (as Ted/Leng).
The creative team features music supervision by Matt MacNelly, scenic design by Takeshi Kata, costume design by Linda Cho, lighting design by David Weiner, sound design by Mikhail Fiksel, projection design by Luke Norby, and fight direction by Unkle Dave's Fight-House.
