After a Broadway premiere in 2019 at the Hudson Theatre, David Byrne's American Utopia will return to the Great White Way next year. Performances will begin on Sep. 17, 2021 at St. James Theatre, two weeks after Springsteen on Broadway ends.

Speaking about the return of American Utopia, David Byrne said: "We all need things to look forward to at this time. I can't wait to get back on stage, live, in person with my fellow band members to perform for audiences in person. I realize now, more than ever, how much I miss performing this show with the band in front of a live Broadway audience."

David Byrne's American Utopia sees Byrne joined by 11 musicians from around the world, championing the art of music, dance and song. In a review for New York Theatre Guide, Mark Shenton said: "Broadway has long been a showcase for the best in popular theatre, but it has also become a valuable experimental space for challenging different expectations of what it can be - and American Utopia offers dazzling new possibilities."

Musicians joining David Byrne include Jacquelene Acevedo, Gustavo Di Dalva, Daniel Freedman, Chris Giarmo, Tim Keiper, Tendayi Kuumba, Karl Mansfield, Mauro Refosco, Stéphane San Juan, Angie Swan and Bobby Wooten III.

On Oct. 17, 2020, the filmed version of American Utopia will premiere on HBO, directed by Spike Lee. A cast album has also been released, and is available to stream and download on all digital service providers.

David Byrne's American Utopia is at St. James Theatre from Sep. 17, 2021.
