Do you hear the people sing? Casting has been announced for Les Misérables: The Arena Concert Spectacular, a 40th-anniversary world tour of the landmark musical coming to Radio City Music Hall from July 23 to August 9 only.
The production will feature Alfie Boe, Killian Donnelly, and Gerónimo Rauch sharing the role of Jean Valjean, Bradley Jaden and Jeremy Secomb sharing the role of Javert, Samantha Barks as Fantine, Matt Lucas as Thénardier, Marina Prior as Madame Thénardier, Jac Yarrow as Marius, Beatrice Penny-Touré as Cosette, Shan Ako as Éponine, and Christian Mark Gibbs as Enjolras, leading a total of over 65 cast and orchestra members. Further casting will be announced soon.
All the above cast members have appeared in previous productions of Les Misérables around the world, and Barks additionally played Éponine in the 2012 film adaptation.
Les Misérables centers on the redemption of former criminal Jean Valjean in a 19th-century France rocked by revolution. The show premiered in London's West End in 1985, and it was last seen on Broadway in 2016.
The Les Misérables musical is written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, based on the novel by Victor Hugo. It has music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, and original French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, with additional material by James Fenton and an adaptation by Trevor Nunn and John Caird. Orchestrations are by Stephen Metcalfe, Christopher Jahnke, and Stephen Brooker, with original orchestrations by John Cameron.
The Arena Spectacular is directed by James Powell and Jean-Pierre Van Der Spuy, with design by Matt Kinley; costumes by Andreane Neofitou, Christine Rowland, and Paul Wills; lighting by Paule Constable and Warren Letton; sound by Mick Potter, projections by Finn Ross; and music supervision by Stephen Brooker and Alfonso Casado Trigo.
