In The Ask, a routine donor meeting in an Upper West Side apartment becomes a battle of intellect, ideology, and survival. Greta, (Marilu Henner) a sophisticated longtime patron, has spent years supporting the causes that shaped her politics and her sense of self. Tanner (Shannon Purser, Stranger Things) is the young, nonbinary ACLU representative sent to secure her continued support. But in a fractured world, even generosity has consequences.
As the two circle each other with wit, conviction, and suspicion, their shared politics begin to splinter. What opens between them is a generational, cultural, and emotional divide. Mathew Freeman's The Ask is a razor-edged play about money, morality, and the terrifying moment when people on the same side stop recognizing each other.
