A new music era has arrived, and music videos make overnight stars. The Kid is on his own hunt for fame, but will his past catch up with him and steal him away from the spotlight?

Purple Rain in New York is the thrilling stage adaptation of this beloved and award-winning film: it won the Academy Award for Best Original Score, its album is certified platinum by the Recording Industry of America, and, in 2019, the Library of Congress added the film to the National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

Purple Rain brings together musicians who worked alongside Prince with Broadway professionals to create a team of record and theatre leaders. Tony Award nominee Saheem Ali directs this new musical.

"What he accomplished with Purple Rain in 1984 — the song, the album and the film — is a testament to the art of making music and showcases it at the highest level.
