Get My Joy is Heavy tickets when they go on sale on New York Theatre Guide to experience this singular musical memoir and piercing look at loss, family, and how we move on from the unimaginable. Directed by Tony Award winner Rachel Chavkin (Hadestown) and created by Obie Award-winning married couple The Bengsons (All In: Comedy About Love), My Joy is Heavy in New York examines a family after the loss of a pregnancy, weaving a beautiful, mournful, and transcendent look at love, parenthood, and grief.
See My Joy is Heavy off Broadway to experience a groundbreaking work: a musical memoir, and one that touches on themes rarely seen on stage. In a brave, personal, and theatrical act, The Bengsons share a story of loss: a young family hungry for connection during the loss of a pregnancy learns to cope while living together in rural isolation. Surrounded by gorgeous and quiet snow and wrapped in dark loneliness against the elements, they uncover the unexpected joys and humor that can emerge in the wake of grief.
My Joy is Heavy unites a stellar production team to tell this special story: The Bengsons have received the Jonathan Larson and Richard Rodgers Awards, as well as nominations for the Drama Desk, Drama League, and Lucille Lortel Awards. Joining them and Chavkin are choreographer Steph Paul (a Princess Grace Award winner) and music supervisor Or Matias (an Obie Award winner, Grey House).
The musical comes to New York Theatre Workshop, the off Broadway and downtown generator of bold new works like Rent and Hadestown, which Chavkin directed and brought to Broadway. Her other Broadway credits include Lempicka and Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812.
