Experience music ranging from gospel to house at Saturday Church off Broadway, a dynamic story of Ulysses, a New York City kid who is the best tenor at his aunt's church but who soon meets a new community: Saturday Church, a sanctuary for LGBTQ+ youth. Caught between two worlds, Ulysses must confront family and faith as he embraces his true self. Based on a beloved indie film, this musical asks if faith is only for the holy...and if there are any queens in the house?
Tickets to Saturday Church in New York will be available here soon, and it is a major new show: Tony Award nominee Whitney White directs and the book is by Damon Cardasis and Pultizer Prize winner James Ijames. "The Voice” 2025 contender Bryson Battle, Tony Award winner J. Harrison Ghee (Some Like It Hot), and Tony Award winner Joaquina Kalukango (Paradise Square) also star in this A-list production.
“A vibrant, audacious musical theatre piece, Saturday Church is a necessary balm for our moment,” said New York Theatre Workshop Artistic Director Patricia McGregor in a statement.
She added, “It is situated in our world and also envisions a world centered in love. It is an earnest depiction of finding our way to the other side and epitomizes a vision for the theatre as a roadmap of how to get through the storm."
