About Viola's Room

Get Viola's Room tickets when they go on sale on New York Theatre Guide to see this singular, five-star (The Guardian, Time Out London) production. Academy Award nominee Helena Bonham Carter (The King's Speech, Harry Potter, The Crown, Fight Club) is your audio guide through a gothic mystery — expect moments of total darkness, spaces to crawl through, and "so much puzzling wonder that you want to go straight back in," per The Guardian.

Created by Punchdrunk, the legendary immersive theatre stars who made Sleep No More, Viola's Room plays at The Shed this summer and fall. The Daily Telegraph wrote that “Helena Bonham Carter leads you into a moonlit world you won’t want to leave,” so audiences can anticipate a thrilling experience with a stunning design.

In this new sensory experience written by Daisy Johnson (shortlisted for the Booker Prize), you will feel your way through a labyrinthine world as an unseen narrator (Bonham Carter) recounts a story of lost innocence and unleashed obsession. Reimagining a classic gothic mystery for a new audience, "Punchdrunk’s spooky fairy tale is the immersive legends’ best show in years" (Time Out London).

Experienced barefoot with headphones to guide your way, Viola's Room off Broadway promises to infuse the dreams of anyone who dares to follow the light. Fans of Sleep No More will be familiar with the company's theatrical aesthetic and specific experience: this is no straightforward play but one you literally move through, learning more about the world and picking up on clues as you go.

Felix Barrett MBE, the founder and artistic director of Punchdrunk, directs this new show. Recommended for ages 12 and up, Viola's Room uses haze, flashing lights, and loud recorded sounds to augment the experience. Tickets to Viola's Room in New York will be available here soon.
