How far would you go for fame? Experience Babe off Broadway to see the personal sacrifices made, and obstacles overcome, to earn big and go platinum with albums galore in the music industry. Abby (Tomei) and Gus (Arliss Howard, The Monogamist) have produced hit after hit: from grunge to femme punk rock, they’ve heard and done it all. They have a legendary work marriage and the platinum albums to back it up, but when Katherine (Gracie McGaw, The Death of Desert Rose and Murder at The Gates), a fresh A&R hire, calls Abby out on the compromises she’s made in her work to climb the ladder, Abby finally has to face the music — and fight to survive.
Featuring original music by pop-rock trio BETTY (who have written theme songs for Showtime’s The L Word and HBO’s Encyclopedia plus their own off-Broadway show, directed by Tony winner Michael Greif), Babe is a thrilling new play about the dark underbelly of a glistening industry. Scott Elliott, artistic director of The New Group, directs this premiere. Elliott has also directed other star-studded hits, including The Seven Year Disappear with Cynthia Nixon and The Seagull/Woodstock, NY with Parker Posey.
Known for her film roles, Tomei has also acted in New York, including at Lincoln Center and in The Realistic Joneses and Top Girls on Broadway. See her return to the stage — tickets to Babe are on New York Theatre Guide now.
