About The Brothers Size

Get The Brothers Size tickets and see Academy Award winner Tarell Alvin McCraney’s play take on fresh life in a new production at The Shed. The Brothers Size plays off Broadway in a co-production with Los Angeles’s Geffen Playhouse for a limited run starting in February. A portrait of Black masculinity, this riveting play echoes themes found in McCraney’s works, particularly as seen in Moonlight, the film based on his play that won him an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Experience The Brothers Size off Broadway to witness McArthur “Genius” grant winner McCraney’s triumphant return to New York theatre. The Choir Boy playwright and Tony Award nominee makes his debut at The Shed sharing one of his most seminal works.

In The Brothers Size, winner of the Paula Vogel Playwriting Award and now celebrating its twentieth anniversary, Ogun embodies hard work and reliability and his younger brother, Oshoosi, is more carefree and unpredictable. After Oshoosi is released from prison, the brothers reunite but have their relationship tested anew when a charismatic figure, Elegba, temps Oshoosi back into his old habits.

A stirring fable that weaves in the rich tradition of the Yoruba people of West Africa, this play offers a singular look at masculinity and family as the brothers wrestle with freedom and duty. The Brothers Size shares a raw and heartfelt ode to the complexity of brotherhood. Set in the Deep South, the play is a timeless story of resilience.

The British director and Olivier Award winner Bijan Sheibani stages this new production, which is presented in the round in The Griffin Theater to invite audiences more intimately into the brothers’ stories.
