About Encores! The Wild Party

You’re invited to a party like no other! Join Tony nominee Jasmine Amy Rogers (BOOP! The Musical) as Queenie, Tony winner Adrienne Warren (TINA – The Tina Turner Musical) as her best friend and rival Kate, and an assortment of New York City’s most colorful characters for an unforgettable night in the dark underbelly of the city at the end of the 1920s. Michael John LaChiusa (The Gardens of Anuncia) and George C. Wolfe (Jelly’s Last Jam) bring Joseph Moncure March’s notorious narrative poem to life in their vivid, jazz-infused musical adaptation.

What happens when a night of debauchery leads to a morning of sobering truths? Nominated for seven Tony Awards in its original run, this musical directed by two-time Helen Hayes Award winner Lili-Anne Brown is full of irreverence, exuberant madness, and joyful defiance.

Amazing show! They really put a lot of work and effort into this show and being in the character. Has a lot of shocking moments but overall it was truthful and so were the actors to their craft 🫶🏼

In 2000, two musical writers BOTH released a musical based on Joseph Moncure March poem The Wild Party, those musical writers being Andrew Lippa and Michael John LaChiusa. The latter of these two musical writers (Michael John LaChiusa) got to have his musical presented on Broadway fo which this revival presentation is of. The earlier musical writer (Andrew Lippa) had his musical presented off-Broadway. Lippa's show was the better of the two musicals, but it did NOT get the opportunity to be produced on Broadway. LaChiusa's musical was produced for Broadway, but closed shortly after it officially opened. This resurrected musical of LaChiusa is a thing that should be BURIED and never spoken of again, for many disappointing reason. SHAME ON City Center Encores for resurrecting this DOA musical.
