Stay gold, everyone! [*The Outsiders*](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/show/34093-the-outsiders) on Broadway has set its complete cast ahead of its New York premiere. Performances begin at the [Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/theatres/bernard-b-jacobs-theatre) on March 16 ahead of an April 11 opening.

Dan Berry completes *The Outsiders* principal cast as Paul Holden. He joins the previously announced Brody Grant as Ponyboy Curtis, Sky Lakota-Lynch as Johnny Cade, Joshua Boone as Dallas Winston, Brent Comer as Darrel Curtis, Jason Schmidt as Sodapop Curtis, Emma Pittman as Cherry Valance, Daryl Tofa as Two-Bit Mathews and Kevin William Paul as Bob Sheldon.

All but Lakota-Lynch, Boone, Tofa, and Pittman make their Broadway debuts with the show.

*The Outsiders* Broadway cast also includes Jordan Chin, Milena J. Comeau, Barton Cowperthwaite, Tilly Evans-Krueger, Henry Gendron, RJ Higton, Wonza Johnson, Sean Harrison Jones, Maggie Kuntz, Renni Anthony Magee, SarahGrace Mariani, Melody Rose, Josh Strobl, Victor Carrillo Tracey, and Trevor Wayne.

Adapted from the landmark novel by S. E. Hinton, *The Outsiders* follows the complicated brotherhood and coming of age shared among teenage gang members all but abandoned by the world. Danya Taymor directs the musical written by Adam Rapp with Justin Levine, with songs by folk duo Jamestown Revival (Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance) and Levine.

As previously announced, the creative team also includes music superviser, arranger, and orchestrator Levine; choreographers Rick and Jeff Kuperman; scenic designers AMP featuring Tatiana Kahvegian; costume designer Sarafina Bush; lighting designer Brian MacDevitt; sound designer Cody Spencer; projection designer Hana Kim; and music director Matt Hinkley.

The *Spamalot* characters include various people in medieval England including a newly crowned monarch, his trusty sidekick, knights, a mystical woman with special powers, and an array of villagers (alive, dead, and "not dead yet"), courtiers, wizards, a historian who speaks directly to the audience, and others. - King Arthur: A proud and well-intentioned but comically inept leader on a quest to find the Holy Grail, the chalice used at the Last Supper.

The name on everybody's lips is gonna be Ariana! Ariana Madix will make her Broadway debut in [*Chicago*](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/show/22-chicago-tickets) next month, beginning performances in the long-running musical at the [Ambassador Theatre](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/theatres/ambassador-theatre) on January 29. She will play a limited engagement through March 24.

Madix is best known for starring on the Bravo reality TV show *Vanderpump Rules* and being a finalist in the most recent season of *Dancing With the Stars*.

In *Chicago*, she will replace Charlotte d'Amboise in the starring role of Roxie Hart. Madix joins a cast that also currently includes Kimberly Marable as Velma Kelly, Lili Thomas as Matron "Mama" Morton, Max von Essen as Billy Flynn, James T. Lane as Amos Hart, R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine, and Max Clayton as Fred Casely.

John Kander and Fred Ebb's *Chicago* follows housewife Roxie and vaudeville performer Velma, who compete for the attention of the press and a high-powered lawyer in order to get acquitted of their murder charges. Running since 1996, *Chicago* is the longest-running revival and second-longest-running show in Broadway history.

Ariana Madix to make Broadway debut in 'Chicago'

The star of *Vanderpump Rules* and *Dancing With the Stars* will step into the musical's starring role of Roxie Hart for an eight-week limited engagement.

He's the pinball wizard! Ali Louis Bourzgui will star in the first Broadway revival of [*The Who's Tommy*](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/show/36395-the-whos-tommy-tickets), which begins performances at the [Nederlander Theatre](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/theatres/nederlander-theatre) on March 8 ahead of a March 28 opening.

Bourzgui reprises the leading role of Tommy Walker from the production's pre-Broadway run at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago earlier this year. He won Chicago’s Jeff Award for his performance, and he now makes his Broadway debut.

Additional Broadway casting for *The Who's Tommy* has yet to be announced. The Chicago cast featured, alongside Bourzgui, Adam Jacobs as Captain Walker, Alison Luff as Mrs. Walker, John Ambrosino as Uncle Ernie, Bobby Conte as Cousin Kevin, and Christina Sajous as the Acid Queen.

The Tony Award-winning *The Who's Tommy* follows a young boy, catatonic from childhood trauma, as he discovers a knack for pinball, and with it local stardom, on his road to healing.

Des McAnuff, who directed the original Broadway production in 1993, returns to direct, and he also co-wrote the show with The Who's Pete Townshend. *The Who's Tommy* features the hit songs from the rock band's groundbreaking 1969 album, including "Pinball Wizard," “I'm Free,” and "We're Not Gonna Take It."

Bourzgui will reprise the title role in the musical revival after playing the part in its pre-Broadway run at Chicago's Goodman Theatre earlier this year.

They've got a good thing going! The first revival of [*Merrily We Roll Along*](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/show/27417-merrily-we-roll-along-tickets) on Broadway has extended a second time, with performances now running through July 7, 2024. The production was previously running through March 24, and *Merrily We Roll Along* tickets for the extension will go on sale to the public this Friday, December 8.

Tickets for the coming spring and summer will go on sale later this week for the production starring Jonathan Groff, Daniel Radcliffe, and Lindsay Mendez.

Good casting never seemed so good! Amber Ardolino will join the cast of *A Beautiful Noise, The Neil Diamond Musical* from January 2 at the Broadhurst Theatre.

Ardolino currently plays Linda McFly in *Back to the Future: The Musical* on Broadway, and her past credits include [*Moulin Rouge! She will now step into the role of Marcia Murphey, Diamond's second wife, in *A Beautiful Noise*. Ardolino replaces original cast member and Tony Award nominee Robyn Hurder, who departs the production on December 17.

The current *A Beautiful Noise* Broadway cast includes Nick Fradiani as Neil Diamond – Then, Mark Jacoby as Neil Diamond – Now, Chita Rivera Award winner, Shirine Babb as Doctor, Jessie Fisher as Jaye Posner, Michael McCormick as Fred Weintraub/Tommy O’Rourke, Tom Alan Robbins as Bert Berns/Kieve Diamond, and Bri Sudia as Ellie Greenwich/Rose Diamond.

*A Beautiful Noise* tells the story of how Diamond rose from an unknown Brooklyn songwriter to a bestselling, internationally famous musician. The show features dozens of Diamond's hit songs, including "Sweet Caroline" and "I Am... I Said."

This show is on fire! Immediately after wrapping its world-premiere run at The Public Theater, the show is moving to Broadway, beginning performances on March 28.

Marking Keys's debut as the creator of a theatrical production, *Hell’s Kitchen* is loosely based on her adolescent experiences in the New York City neighborhood that gives the show its title. That includes the chance for romance. Ali is looking for love – and it looks like she’s found it thanks to a hunky older bucket drummer. He pounds out his beckoning beats outside her apartment at Manhattan Plaza, a federally subsidized housing complex for artists.

Ali pursues her crush, much to his surprise and to the chagrin of her fiercely protective mother, Jersey. She aims to keep her daughter from following her bumpy life’s path. One of those bumps was Davis, Ali’s long-gone father. Amid the discordant mother-daughter drama and twists and turns of first love, Ali discovers her gift for music, one that’s bright enough to light her future.

Gavin James Creel is a Tony&nbsp;and Olivier Award-winning actor&nbsp;who was born on April 18, 1976 in Findlay, Ohio. After graduating from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre &amp; Dance with a BFA in musical theatre&nbsp;in 1998, he was cast as Nick Piazza in the national tour of Fame&nbsp;that same year. After moving to New York, he landed his Off-Broadway debut in Bat Boy: The Musical&nbsp;in 2001 and went on to star as Jimmy Smith in the Broadway premiere of Thoroughly Modern Millie, earning his first Tony nomination in 2002. His next Broadway outing was in the 2004 revival of La Cage aux Folles, playing the role of Jean-Michel.

Creel then made the trip across&nbsp;the pond and made his West End debut, taking over the role of Bert in Mary Poppins&nbsp;in 2006. He would return to Broadway as Claude in the 2009 revival of Hair&nbsp;(earning his second Tony nomination) and transferred with the production, as did the entire cast,&nbsp;back to London in 2010.

The next stage of his career revolved around the role of Elder Price in the hit musical The Book of Mormon. He first portrayed the character in the 2012 national tour, which led to him originating the role and winning his first Olivier Award in the 2013 West End premiere. He subsequently assumed the role in the Broadway production in 2015.

Creel went on to star as Steven Kodaly in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s 2016 revival of She Loves Me&nbsp;and began performances as Cornelius Hackl alongside Bette Midler in Hello, Dolly!&nbsp;on March 15, 2017. The role earned him his first Tony Award and the production continued through to August 25, 2018. He returned&nbsp;to the Broadway stage to star as Dr. Pomatter opposite&nbsp;Sara Bareilles in her hit musical&nbsp;Waitress&nbsp;from&nbsp;January 7 to February 3, 2019, and played Cinderella's Prince in the critically acclaimed 2022 revival of Into the Woods.

In late 2018, the Off-Broadway organization MCC Theater moved into its own permanent home. The complex is located in the Hell's Kitchen area of Manhattan, at West 52nd Street and 10th Avenue, and consists of two theatre spaces. The Newman Mills Theater has a seating capacity of 245, and The Susan and Ronald Frankel Theater is a 100-seat black box-style theatre.

Robert LuPone, Bernard Telsey, and William Canter founded MCC, which stands for Manhattan Class Company, in 1986. The company produced workshops and full productions of new works in various rented spaces around the city before purchasing its current venue.

Big questions come early in [Gavin Creel](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/stars-on-stage/gavin-creel)’s [*Walk On Through: Confessions of a Museum Novice*](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/show/36298-walk-on-through-confessions-of-a-museum-novice), now at [MCC Theater](https://www.newyorktheatreguide.com/theatres/mcc-theater) and drawn from his visits to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. “Where am I in this place?” he wonders. “Who am I meant to be? In this world, in this space, can I find me?”

Another query: What took Creel so long to go there? Turns out the *Hello, Dolly!* Tony winner was 43 before he ever set foot inside the museum four years ago, even though he’d lived in New York City for two decades. Better late than never. 

Once inside the famous landmark, Creel looked at art – and himself – to create this enjoyable work commissioned by the Met. *Walk On Through* is a deeply personal, though jumbled, concert-style memoir and meditation on the power of art.

Creel churned his gallery strolls into 17 original songs in which he reflects on how pieces by Edward Hopper, Jackson Pollock, and others spoke to him. A magnetic performer, he narrates, sings, and plays the piano and harmonium in the 105-minute production directed by Linda Goodrich. His pop-rock flavored melodies are easy on the ears, and his lyrics are predictably straightforward. 

He’s ably assisted by four musicians – Madeline Benson, Chris Peters, Corey Rawls, and Scott Wasserman – and two more performers. The set, like Creel’s outfit, is basic black. Giant projections of paintings and sculptures highlight various points.

Joan Snyder’s colorful abstract work *Smashed Strokes Hope* mirrors Creel’s chaotic tendencies, he admits. Pollock’s monumental drip painting *Autumn Rhythm (Number 30)* prompts a confession about his long-held desire “make something — something of my own — something remarkable.” This section turns into a duet with Pollock (an invaluable Ryan Vasquez). 

Various artworks stir up sexually charged feelings, including a portrait of a 19th-century Russian writer with bedroom eyes and a mournful history. “Instantly and quite literally, I have a crush on a painting,” gushes Creel. 

It’s borderline corny, yes, but Creel’s gusto is endearing. The painting also illuminates how pain is captured by art. There’s plenty more ache to go around when Vasquez appears as Creel’s ex (identified simply as H, in the script), who alludes to their failed relationship.

Some moments, however, don’t gel. In one inspired by a painting of a biblical heroine who killed a besieging general, *Hair* alum Sasha Allen belts overtime, and the head-scratching number stops the show for the wrong reason.

Creel also weaves the Covid-19 pandemic, which temporarily shuttered the museum and his creative process, into the show. An unfinished 16th-century portrait of Christ, *Salvator Mundi*, pops up repeatedly. It serves as a springboard to cover religious trauma as well as a personal reconciliation as Creel continues to walk on through the Met — and his life.
