Scene Partners Information

Dianne Wiest returns to the stage in Scene Partners, a new Off-Broadway play written by John J. Casewell, Jr. and directed by Hadestown Tony winner Rachel Chavkin. Check back for information on Scene Partners tickets on New York Theatre Guide.

The Scene Partners play features Wiest as Meryl, a woman who, at 75 years old, decides to pack up her life in Milwaukee and move to Los Angeles to be a movie star. She's determined to reinvent herself with her small amount of money and large amount of nerve and hope. But even as she does so, she wonders whether the world will ever see her for who she is.

Though best known for her Oscar-winning performances in Hannah and Her Sisters and Bullets over Broadway, among other acclaimed screen credits like Road to Avonlea, In Treatment, Parenthood, and Footloose, Wiest is also a prominent stage actress. She's appeared on Broadway eight times and off Broadway more than 20, earning three Drama Desk Award nominations and a Theatre World Award. Her last New York stage appearance was in 2015's Rasheeda Speaking, directed by Cynthia Nixon.

Director Chavkin is a fellow Off-Broadway veteran, having staged Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 and Hadestown off Broadway before doing so on Broadway. Most recently, she staged How to Defend Yourself in the 2022-23 season. Playwright Casewell was represented last season, too, with the critically acclaimed Wet Brain.

Tickets to Scene Partners off Broadway will be available on New York Theatre Guide soon.
