What is Gutenberg! The Musical about?

Gutenberg! The Musical, starring Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad, is about two friends, Bud and Doug, who are developing a musical about Johannes Gutenberg, the printing press inventor who created the Gutenberg Bible in 1455, one of the earliest books to be printed using movable type. The musical is filled with historical inaccuracies, but Bud and Doug are extremely passionate about their passion project. Watch the hilarity unfold as the duo presents their work in progress to Broadway producers.

Written by Scott Brown and Anthony King, the creative minds behind Beetlejuice, this metatheatrical experience is a love letter to the art of creating a show. Gutenberg! The Musical was developed with Upright Citizens Brigade in the early 2000s and went on to have a successful Off-Broadway run at 59E59 Theaters and The Actors’ Playhouse.

The show makes its Broadway debut with director Alex Timbers, who staged the Off-Broadway production of Gutenberg! The Musical. Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad star.

Who are Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad?
