The Sesame Street musical features all the beloved characters from the classic children's show: Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, Grover, Rosita, Bert, Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, The Count, Gabrielle, and more. They'll be joined by Honkers, Martians, and special celebrity guest stars from Broadway and more, together showing audiences the power of theatre to unlock creativity and imagination. The musical includes songs from the show as well as new songs written specifically for the stage.
Sesame Street has been on the air for 53 seasons since 1969, making it one of the longest-running shows in the world. The show also holds the record for the most awards won by a kids' TV program: 11 Grammys and 214 Emmys. It began on PBS and now also plays on HBO and HBO Max, still with millions of viewers. The TV show teaches all kinds of lessons to kids, from letters and numbers to understanding diversity and resolving conflicts. (The musical features lessons on these topics, too.)
Tons of celebrities — including actors, singers, politicians, and more — have appeared as guests on Sesame Street. But it's the Muppets, created by the late Jim Henson, that have always been the face of the show. Plenty of puppetry is included in Sesame Street off Broadway, too, as Rockefeller Productions is behind the show. A puppetry pioneer in its own right, the company is known for its high-quality children's stage shows, such as the acclaimed Off-Broadway production of Disney's Winnie the Pooh: The New Musical Adaptation.
