Fresh off critically acclaimed runs across Australia and an Oliver Award-nominated one in London's West End, Liz Kingsman's One Woman Show makes its New York debut at the Greenwich House Theater this summer. Get One Woman Show tickets on New York Theatre Guide.
One Woman Show is, in part, a riff on Fleabag, the breakout hit comedy act-turned-TV series that made Phoebe Waller-Bridge a star — and inspired a succession of solo shows about troubled yet quirky women. Kingsman performs as a woman hoping her comedy show will get picked up by a TV executive. That show-within-One Woman Show is about Wildfowl, a 20something woman who does marketing for a wildlife charity and is stumbling her way through life.
Beyond just lampooning Fleabag, however, Kingsman's act makes sharp and hilarious commentary on today's entertainment world, in which playing the "troubled woman" is one of the only ways to succeed.
Ironically, Kingsman's show made its London debut at Soho Theatre — the same venue where Waller-Bridge debuted the first version of Fleabag. One Woman Show has made Kingsman as much of an international success, going on to earn a Comedy Award nomination at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and a 2023 Olivier Award nomination for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play in the West End. Between that run and One Woman Show in New York, Kingsman performed her show in Sydney and Melbourne.
Kingsman hails from Australia, but she made her name in the British comedy scene. She won TheTimes’ 2022 Breakthrough Award at the Sky Arts South Bank Awards.
The late Adam Brace was set to direct Kingsman in One Woman Show off Broadway. He also directed Just For Us, Alex Edelman's internationally successful comedy show making its Broadway debut in summer 2023.
