Laugh out loud at Liz Kingsman's savvy, witty, and loving spoof on the genre.

One Woman Show Information

Fresh off critically acclaimed runs across Australia and an Oliver Award-nominated one in London's West End, Liz Kingsman's One Woman Show makes its New York debut at the Greenwich House Theater this summer. Get One Woman Show tickets on New York Theatre Guide.

One Woman Show is, in part, a riff on the succession of solo shows about troubled yet quirky women. Kingsman performs as a woman hoping her comedy show will get picked up by a TV executive. That show-within-One Woman Show is titled Wildfowl, about a 20something woman who does marketing for a wildlife charity and is stumbling her way through life.

Beyond just lampooning this genre (pioneered by successful women like Kate Berlant and Lena Dunham), however, Kingsman's act makes sharp and hilarious commentary on today's entertainment world, in which playing the "troubled woman" is one of the only ways to succeed.

Kingsman's show made its London debut at Soho Theatre. One Woman Show has made Kingsman an international success, going on to earn a Comedy Award nomination at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and a 2023 Olivier Award nomination for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play in the West End. Between that run and One Woman Show in New York, Kingsman performed her show in Sydney and Melbourne.

Kingsman hails from Australia, but she made her name in the British comedy scene. She won TheTimes’ 2022 Breakthrough Award at the Sky Arts South Bank Awards.

The late Adam Brace was set to direct Kingsman in One Woman Show off Broadway. He also directed Just For Us, Alex Edelman's internationally successful comedy show making its Broadway debut in summer 2023.

Our review

Actually, she's Liz Kingsman, the British comic playing a hot mess in a one-woman show called Wildfowl nested within an act actually called, well, One Woman Show. Confused? That's sort of by design. Kingsman's meta-theatrical event cleverly blurs the lines between where her "real" self ends and her character begins as she sends up seemingly every one-woman show trope known to (wo)man. But here's the gist: Kingsman wrote a show called Wildfowl, about an...
