Santino Fontana, Judy Kuhn, Julia Lester, and more star in one of the first major revivals of I Can Get It For You Wholesale since its Broadway premiere in 1962. Get I Can Get It For You Wholesale tickets now to see these stage favorites in this limited-time Off-Broadway production.
The I Can Get It For You Wholesale musical follows Harry Bogen, a shipping clerk in 1937 New York. He has career ambitions far beyond his little piece of the Garment District, and he'll do anything, however dishonest, to anyone, however close, to get ahead and stay there.
Bogen may be the show's main character, but I Can Get It For You Wholesale is perhaps even better known for the small role of Miss Marmelstein, which gave Barbra Streisand her Broadway debut (and first Tony Award nomination) back in 1962. Now, Julia Lester, a 2023 Tony nominee for Into the Woods, takes on that role, alongside Tony winner Fontana (Tootsie) as Harry and four-time Tony nominee Kuhn (Fun Home, She Loves Me) as Mrs. Bogen.
Following the show's Broadway debut, the next major New York revival wasn't until 1991, when the American Jewish Theatre staged I Can Get It For You Wholesale off Broadway with Evan Pappas, Carolee Carmello, and Vicki Lewis. The 2023 production, presented off Broadway by Classic Stage Company, is the first Off-Broadway revival since then.
This production features songs by Harold Rome and a book by John Weidman, revised from the original by his father, Jerome Weidman. The elder Weidman also wrote the 1937 novel I Can Get It For You Wholesale, on which the musical is based, and co-won a Pulitzer Prize for the musical Fiorello!
