Weezer on Broadway Information
Weezer on Broadway has been canceled.
The Los Angeles rock band Weezer was set to play a five-night residency on Broadway from September 13-18, 2022.
In 2022, Weezer is releasing a four-installment series of EPs collectively titled SZNZ. Each album is being released on the first day of each season, with Spring having come out on the vernal equinox and Summer being released on the summer solstice. Autumn and Winter have yet to be released until later in 2022, but Weezer planned to perform these EPs early at the residency.
Each night of the Weezer Broadway residency centered on one installment of the EP, in order of their release: Spring on the 13th, Summer on the 14th, Autumn on the 16th, and Winter on the 17th. The final concert is an encore, featuring selections from each EP. Each concert would also include Weezer hits from throughout the band's 30-year career in addition to the new songs.
All current members of Weezer — Rivers Cuomo (lead vocals, lead guitar, keyboards), Patrick Wilson (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Brian Bell (rhythm guitar, backing vocals, keyboards), and Scott Shriner (bass, backing vocals, keyboards) — will all perform live for the Broadway concerts.
This residency would have marked Weezer's first Broadway venture since the band came onto the music scene in 1992. In the past three decades, the band has released 18 albums and 9 EPs (including the upcoming Autumn and Winter installments of SZNZ), sold more than 35 million albums worldwide, and received a Grammy Award and four additional nominations. The band's best-known songs include "Beverly Hills," "Say It Ain't So," "Pork and Beans" (whose music video nabbed Weezer its Grammy in 2009), "Undone, "Buddy Holly," and a cover of The Monkees' "I'm A Believer."
The arrival of Weezer in New York was planned less than a year after another rock residency: Springsteen on Broadway, Bruce Springsteen's Tony-winning concert that premiered in 2017 and had an encore run in summer 2021, making it the first show to reopen on Broadway after the pandemic shutdown.
