The world premiere of John J. Caswell, Jr.'s Wet Brain is the final production in Playwrights Horizons and MCC Theater's 2022-2023 seasons. Check back for information on Wet Brain tickets on New York Theatre Guide.
Wet Brain is a play about addiction — and the weird, horrifying, and humorous ways one family deals with it. Their Arizona house is crumbling, and so is the family itself as its patriarch succumbs to alcoholism. And maybe gets abducted by aliens over and over. The family copes with smart-aleck humor, but it takes a trip across lightyears to finally find closure and overcome the loss.
Caswell makes his Off-Broadway debut with Wet Brain in New York. His play's title comes from a disorder that often develops as a result of longtime heavy drinking, which depletes necessary vitamins in the brain.
Dustin Wills directs Wet Brain off Broadway, and it's his second production with MCC this season alone. At the beginning of 2023, he directed Hansol Jung's Wolf Play for the theatre company after staging its world premiere at Soho Rep in 2022. His theatre and opera productions have appeared at renowned organizations including The Public Theater and Williamstown Theatre Festival.
Though both Playwrights Horizons and MCC are producing Wet Brain, the show will only be performed at Playwrights Horizons's theatre on 42nd Street.
Wet Brain theatre tickets will be available soon.
