Thrilling, Funny, Relevant, Thought-provoking, Intense

See it if Brilliantly connected feminist stories of black women during the Civil War & today. Dense characters come alive.

Don’t see it if It’s witty, fast-paced, deep, suspenseful, surprising, funny & powerful. Even the costume changes are thrilling.

Relevant, Thought-provoking, Intense, Great acting, Great writing

See it if A mesmerizing Morisseau's play on how the Black woman is "gazed" through history, both as an enslaved person & as a current professor,*

Don’t see it if Actors playing different roles & constant switching from past to present may confuse you.

Great writing, Relevant, Clever, Absorbing

See it if Another well written and thought-provoking play by Dominique. Morisseau. The acting was also superb.

Don’t see it if A pamphlet was included that encouraged permission for audience engagement. I found this quite annoying especially the patron sitting next

More information about Confederates

Sarah, a savvy slave turned Union spy, and Sandra, a brilliant professor in a modern-day private university, are facing similar struggles, even though they live over a century apart. Confederates leaps through time in order to trace the identities of these two black American women and explore the reins their racial and gender bias still hold on American educational systems today.
