A Sherlock Carol is bringing the Christmas spirit — and some famous Christmas spirits of literature — to New World Stages this holiday season. Mark Shanahan's new play takes Arthur Conan Doyle's and Charles Dickens' classic characters and mashes them up in one mysterious tale. A Sherlock Carol tickets are available on New York Theatre Guide now.
A Sherlock Carol is a play that takes place following the death of Ebenezer Scrooge, a changed and benevolent man since the events of A Christmas Carol. But Tiny Tim, now an adult and not so tiny, believes Scrooge died under mysterious circumstances. So he enlists the best of the best detectives to investigate: Sherlock Holmes, who's seeking a new purpose now that his longtime nemesis, Moriarty, is dead. Already a haunted man after all he's seen, Holmes gets literally haunted as he's investigating Scrooge's death. Like Scrooge before him, the ghosts of past, present, and future pay Holmes a visit.
Shanahan's play has previously been performed as a reading at Mile Square Theatre in New Jersey in 2019; as part of Florida Repertory Theatre's virtual Festival of New Works in 2020; and as a virtual reading through Connecticut's Westport County Playhouse in early 2021. The 2021 production of A Sherlock Carol Off-Broadway in New York marks the show's Off-Broadway debut, just in time for the holidays. A Sherlock Carol is suitable for all ages.
