About Chicken & Biscuits

This show has closed.

A raucous new comedy about family, laughter and love, the Chicken & Biscuits play brings Broadway back to uproarious life! Douglas Lyons' laugh riot new play celebrates all the ways families drive each other insane — and the essential bonds that keep us together. Chicken & Biscuits tickets are available on New York Theatre Guide now.

The Jenkins are gathering to celebrate their father's life but Baneatta, the eldest daughter, can't get any part of this funeral to go smoothly. Granddaughter La'Trice is butting into everyone's business, her sister Beverly wants to dress to show everyone what she's been "blessed with," and her grandson Kenny plans to introduce the family to his Jewish boyfriend. But all of that is nothing compared to the family secret about to come walking through the door.

The Chicken & Biscuits Broadway run comes direct from Queens Theatre, where it ran for under two weeks in 2020 prior to the theater shutdown. Now Lyons' universal story will feed the souls of Broadway audiences in its new home at the Circle in the Square Theatre.

Both Lyons and director Zhailon Levingston make their Broadway debuts as writer/director. At just 27 years old, Levingston makes history as the youngest Black director ever on Broadway. Lead producer E. Clayton Cornelious (also making his debut in that role) first met playwright Lyons when they were both ensemble members at Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. Now this crew of trailblazing Black artists brings the Jenkins family to Broadway in a season of historic representation for Black playwrights.

Television star Cleo King makes her Broadway debut in Chicken & Biscuits as Baneatta. She is joined by musical theatre legend Norm Lewis, marking his first ever appearance in a Broadway play, and Obie Award winner Michael Urie, who last appeared on Broadway to critical acclaim in Harvey Fierstein's Torch Song
