About The Play That Goes Wrong

After a successful Broadway run, The Play That Goes Wrong is now making audiences laugh at New World Stages. Get The Play That Goes Wrong tickets now.

The Play That Goes Wrong is a play within a play. The show centers on the amateur theatre troupe Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society, and it's the opening night of their newest murder mystery show. But it's a struggle to get to the final curtain. While falling sets, forgotten lines, and missing actors would make for a disastrous theatre experience otherwise, at The Play That Goes Wrong off Broadway, these mishaps make for two hours' worth of nonstop fun and laughs.

The award-winning comedy The Play That Goes Wrong is a raucous affair on stage and a real-life, rags-to-riches tale off stage. Created by a group of LAMDA graduates who formed a troupe called Mischief Theatre, The Play That Goes Wrong began its life on the London fringe with only four paying patrons, and then did absolutely everything right from there. The comedy evolved into a West End hit that would ultimately win an Olivier Award in 2015.

The original London stars also headlined the play's Broadway transfer, which officially opened at the Lyceum Theatre in April 2017 and got a Tony Award for Best Scenic Design of a Play. The Broadway production enjoyed a lengthy run and finally played its closing performance on January 6, 2019. The mishaps continue, however, as The Play That Goes Wrong almost immediately reopened off Broadway in February 2019, delighting audiences with its signature brand of physical comedy.

Funny, Hilarious, Must see, Non-stop

See it if You want to laugh for two hours. Pure slapstick brilliance. Well crafted. My stomach still hurts ...

Don’t see it if There's not much beyond the slapstick, so if you like other kinds of humor, this is not for you.

Hilarious, Slapstick, Silly, Funny, Delightful

See it if You're a fan of broad physical comedy & slapstick. Total silliness & mayhem - sets falling down, spit takes, etc - extremely well done.

Don’t see it if You're looking for meaningful theater. This is pure silliness. The show gets stronger in the 2nd act; audience was screaming with laughter.

Fun, Great staging, Hilarious, Entertaining

See it if You like physical comedy done to superb timing and pace. Fast paced and unexpected. It was fun all throughout.

Don’t see it if Even if you don't like slapstick and physical comedy, like I usually don't, this one it different. It's fast and masterful in its timing.

Clever, Delightful, Entertaining, Funny

See it if You're looking for silly fun. I smiled, chucked and laughed from start to finish.

Don’t see it if You looking for serious theatre. The gags become a bit repetitive and there's no real point to it all -except to make you laugh.

Halfway through the first act of the hilarious off-Broadway staging of The Play That Goes Wrong, an actor who has grown wildly frustrated because of a missing prop turns to the audience and says, "Stop laughing! This isn't television, I can see you." The demand, naturally, only makes the audience laugh harder. And that is an impressive feat given that the chuckles had been pouring forth relentlessly from the production's...
