Official Broadway production photos released for Sea Wall / A Life

The Broadway premiere of Sea Wall / A Life, starring Tom Sturridge & Jake Gyllenhaal, is set for an official opening at the Hudson Theatre on August 8, 2019.

Ahead of tomorrow's Opening Night, official production photos have now been released for the Broadway premiere of Sea Wall / A Life, starring Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal and Tony Award nominee Tom Sturridge, which began previews at the Hudson Theatre on July 26, 2019, and is scheduled to run through September 29, 2019.

Under the direction of Carrie CracknellSea Wall / A Life is comprised of two one-man plays with Mr. Sturridge starring in Tony and Olivier Award winner Simon StephensSea Wall and Mr. Gyllenhaal starring in Olivier Award-nominee Nick Payne's A Life.

Synopsis: "Sea Wall / A Life is a heart-filled exploration of the beauty of life and meaning of love. Tom Sturridge, in his third collaboration with Tony and Olivier Award winner Simon Stephens, performs Sea Wall, an astonishing monologue about love and the human need to know the unknowable. Jake Gyllenhaal continues his artistic collaboration with Olivier Award-nominated playwright Nick Payne in A Life, an emotional examination of how sons become fathers and the transformative power of love. Together, Sea Wall / A Life is a must-see evening of dramatic storytelling at its best."

The production previously played a sold-out limited engagement at the Public Theater from February 1 to March 31, 2019, with Mr. Sturridge receiving a Lucille Lortel Award nomination for his performance in Sea Wall and Mr. Gyllenhaal receiving a Drama League Award nomination for his performance in A Life.

The creative team also features original music by Stuart Earl, scenic design by Laura Jellinek, costume design by Kaye Voyce, and lighting design by Guy Hoare.

Sea Wall / A Life is produced on Broadway by Nine Stories, Ambassador Theatre Group, Seaview Productions, Benjamin Lowy Productions, and The Public Theater.

Tom Sturridge was last seen on the Broadway stage as Winston in the 2017 Broadway premiere of 1984 and he earned a Tony Award nomination and received a Theatre World Award for his Broadway debut as Phillip in Orphans in 2013. His London stage credits include American Buffalo and The Trial in 2015, No Quarter in 2013, Wastwater in 2011, and Punk Rock in 2010. On screen, he is best known for his film roles in the likes of "Journey's End," "Far from the Madding Crowd," "On the Road," "Waiting for Forever," "The Boat That Rocked," and "Vanity Fair."

Jake Gyllenhaal made his Broadway debut in the Manhattan Theatre Club production of Constellations in December 2014 and was last seen on the Broadway stage as George in Sunday in the Park with George in 2017. He previously appeared off-Broadway in If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet in 2012 and in the Encores! production of Little Shop of Horrors. He also starred in Kenneth This is Our Youth in London's West End in 2002. He famously earned an Oscar nomination for "Brokeback Mountain" in 2006 and has received two Golden Globe nominations - "Nightcrawler" (2015) and "Love & Other Drugs" (2011). Other notable screen credits include "Donnie Darko," "Zodiac," "Source Code," "Southpaw," "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," "Jarhead," "The Day After Tomorrow," "Prisoners," "Enemy," "End of Watch," "Everest," and "Spider-Man: Far from Home."

Sea Wall / A Life Tickets are available now for performances through September 29, 2019.
