The Patsy

Six-time Obie Award winner David Greenspan is back with The Patsy, his solo adaptation of the same-named vintage Broadway show going up at the Abrons Arts Center. Get The Patsy tickets now.

Premiering in 1925 on Broadway, Barry Conners’ The Patsy was immediately immortalized in film by the brilliant Marion Davies and Marie Dressler. In 2011, “the singular downtown artist” (The New York Times) and 6x Obie Award Winner David Greenspan, along with Transport Group Artistic Director and 2x Obie Award Winner Jack Cummings III, put their own spin on the feisty drawing room comedy by giving all eight roles to Greenspan.

In 2022, Greenspan cleverly resurrects this Cinderella story of a girl who is a little less beautiful and a little less loved and her fractious, gossipy family into a “virtuosic solo spree" (Time Out New York). Filled with familial intrigue, marital sparring, lovers in pursuit, country club scandals, and labors of the heart, Transport Group’s The Patsy once again explores a family’s aspirations of wealth, status, and love in pre-depression America through Greenspan’s incomparable performance.
