Charles Gluck's play makes its New York premiere at the Pershing Square Signature Center this spring. Get Our Brother's Son tickets now.
Our Brother's Son is a play with elements of family drama and medical drama, as the members of one family unravel amid a medical crisis. The middle-aged Leo decides to take over-the-counter painkillers to treat an ailment, unwittingly inducing renal failure and soon requiring a kidney donation from a family member. As his siblings, David and Gail, undergo genetic testing to determine if they're a match, a deep secret gets revealed that threatens to tear apart the family. Each of Leo's family members, with the support of their spouses, has to grapple with the choice between helping their family and preserving themselves.
Plays about medicine are an apt niche for Charles Gluck — the playwright practiced gastroenterology for 28 years while performing stand-up comedy on the side. Now retired, he works as a playwright. His premiere family drama, Unlikely Heroes, had its world premiere in Florida. That show, about sibling, parental, and marital conflicts, is a prequel of sorts to Our Brother's Son, as it features all the same characters.
David Alpert, who associate directed If/Then on Broadway and has helmed multiple other New York and regional projects, directs the premiere of Our Brother's Son in New York.
