Heads up! Award-winning actor and producer Bruce Willis will join The Burgess Group to mount My Mother’s Severed Head at Theatre One on Theatre Row. Performances will begin off Broadway September 10 ahead of a September 13 opening. In Charles Cissel’s play, the playwright Robert and his father find themselves constantly fighting following the death of Robert’s mother. But she’s not entirely out of the picture — she was decapitated, and her head rests in the family home, talking at Robert as though she never left. She just has to figure out how to get her head back onto her body.
My Mother's Severed Head
Get ready to laugh your head off at My Mother's Severed Head, Charles Cissel's dark comedy opening at Theatre One on Theatre Row. Actor and producer Bruce Willis and The Burgess Group will produce this wacky play for a limited three-week run opening September 13. In the play My Mother's Severed Head, Robert is an aspiring playwright who is mourning the loss of his mother. Her unfortunate decapitation forced him to put his dreams on hold to take over the family business in her absence. Except she's not fully gone — her decapitated head sits like a furniture piece, albeit a very talkative one, in Robert's home. When he and Mama are not talking to each other, Robert is arguing with his father, and Mama is scheming to rejoin her head with her body.
Richard Caliban will direct the bow of My Mother's Severed Head off Broadway. The creative team also includes costume designer Heather Carey, set designer Wesley Cornwell, and lighting designer Daniela Fresand.
My Mother's Severed Head New York tickets will be on sale soon.
