I honestly can’t tell you how many productions of Shakespeare’s Macbeth I’ve seen. I was in one and I know I’ve seen more than four and probably less than fourteen other productions. I’ve never seen a more exciting or clearer version than the Red Bull Theater production of Mac Beth, stunningly adapted and directed by Erica Schmidt, currently playing at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.
Red Bull Theater presents Mac Beth - Erica Schmidt's new adaptation of the Shakespeare classic, which she also directs.
The world premiere of Mac Beth was previously staged at Seattle Repertory Theater in June 2018.

In this new production seven girls meet up to do a play in an empty lot outside the city on an autumn afternoon. School uniform tartan transforms in this American urban wasteland. The girls are witches, ghosts, and kings. They hurl headlong into the unchecked passions of Macbeth, as the line between real life and blood fantasy quickly blurs. Through prophecies and smartphones, unexpected resonances emerge from Shakespeare’s dark nightmare of ambition gone awry.
