Is There Still Sex in the City?

Candace Bushnell is right at home in Manhattan with her new one-woman stage show, Is There Still Sex in the City?, making its New York premiere at the Daryl Roth Theatre. Is There Still Sex in the City? tickets are available on New York Theatre Guide now.

Is There Still Sex in the City? is a play in which Bushnell recounts personal stories of love, relationships, and plenty of other aspects of her life, not least of all her New York Observer column that became the smash hit Sex and the City. It’s been more than 20 years since Bushnell wrote that column, and in some ways, she’s still like Carrie Bradshaw, living a life filled with designer shoes and fancy cocktails. However, when she got divorced at age 50, she found herself in a new chapter of her life.

Now out of Manhattan and in the (equally fabulous) Hamptons, she’s had to learn the ins and outs of the modern dating scene and how to navigate them as a middle-aged woman. She shares her insights into this experience in Is There Still Sex in the City? through stories about fashion, sex, love, and more featuring her and her friends.

The one-woman show first premiered at Pennsylvania’s Bucks County Playhouse in summer 2021 and Is There Still Sex in the City? Off-Broadway is now premiering in New York, the city that started it all. The show takes its title from Bushnell’s 2019 novel of the same name, in which a fictional group of four friends go through the same dating and New York lifestyle experiences that Bushnell did.

Candace Bushnell calls her new one-woman show Is There Still Sex in the City? Carrie Bradshaw’s origin story. Bushnell created the iconic New York character decades ago as an alterego for her own sex and relationships column, but the character went on to lead an acclaimed television series, a film franchise, a series reboot, and generations of women who identify with her.

Our Is There Still Sex in the City? Review

On a chilly New York evening in November, two best girlfriends grabbed their $60 coats and tapped their $800 iPhones to pay for a $2.75 ride downtown to the Daryl Roth Theatre to see the latest from Candace Bushnell, a New Yorker as classic as Lady Liberty, a Rockette, and Carrie Bradshaw herself. As they rode the subway, they couldn’t help but wonder: how long will we crave glamorized stories... Read more
