Dominique Morriseau’s Confederates is a spicy comedy that dissects the intricacies of racism that Black women are expected to endure. The recently opened production at Signature Theatre does so by framing the experiences of two Black women struggling through systems of white supremacy across two periods of time.

As part of the 2021-2022 off-Broadway season at Signature Theatre, Dominique Morisseau's world premiere drama Confederates will be staged, directed by Kamilah Forbes.
Performances are staged at The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre within the Pershing Square Signature Center.

Sarah, a savvy slave turned Union spy, and Sandra, a brilliant professor in a modern-day private university, are facing similar struggles, even though they live over a century apart. Confederates leaps through time in order to trace the identities of these two black American women and explore the reins their racial and gender bias still hold on American educational systems today.
