The Oh God, A Show About Abortion stand-up comedy show centers on one summer in Leiby's life, which "started with a bang" and ended with her getting an abortion at Planned Parenthood. The anecdotes Leiby tells are from the months in between, which connects the minutiae of preparing for an abortion — deciding what to wear, visiting the fertility section of a CVS in Missouri, getting two root canals (that one's unrelated) — with the weighty effects of doing so, especially in a place where it's stigmatized and at a time when reproductive rights across the country hang in limbo.

Leiby is a Brooklyn-based comic who's written for shows on Comedy Central including The President Show and The Opposition with Jordan Klepper, and for publications including McSweeney's, Vice, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, and The New York Times. She's also appeared on Hulu's Triumph Election Special and Cartoon Network's Teenage Euthanasia. In a reversal of roles from Oh God, A Show About Abortion, in which Leiby performs and Glazer produces, Leiby has executive produced Glazer's Comedy Time Capsule and The Planet is Burning.

Leiby has performed Oh God, A Show About Abortion across New York since fall 2021 at venues like Union Hall in Brooklyn and Caveat in lower Manhattan, then under the title Oh God, An Hour About Abortion. The New York Times included it on its "Best Comedy of 2021" list as the year's best political comedy.

Leiby anticipated hesitation toward the show's subject matter — that's how the show got its self-deprecating title — and said succinctly in a statement, "Please come. I promise it's funny." Glazer described in her own statement, "This show is so precise about Alison’s specific experience as a 35-year old woman who chose to get an abortion that it's actually widely relatable to anyone who's ever had to make a complex decision."

Leiby previously performed her show at multiple venues throughout New York City in fall 2021, when The New York Times named it the best political comedy of 2021.

Our Alison Leiby: Oh God, A Show About Abortion Review

Alison Leiby’s comedy act Oh God, A Show About Abortion falls right in line with its stand-up predecessors at the Cherry Lane Theatre: It matches the political relevance of Alex Edelman’s Just For Us and the discussion of the taboo that defines Jacqueline Novak’s Get On Your Knees. All three mine fantastic comedy (and sharp insights) from unexpected subjects, but Leiby's now stands apart as... Read more
