Manhattan Theatre Club sets remainder of 2022-23 Off-Broadway season

The shows include a world-premiere and a New York-premiere play.

Manhattan Theatre Club has set the final two productions in its 2022-23 Off-Broadway season. The performances of these plays will be staged at MTC's Stage I at New York City Center.

In winter 2023 is the world premiere of Emily Feldman's the best we could (a family tragedy), a production postponed from the 2019-2020 season amid the pandemic. Daniel Aukin directs this show about a father-daughter cross-country road trip. Performances begin February 7 ahead of a March 1 opening night.

Casting and additional creative team for this production have yet to be announced.

Finally, in spring 2023 will be the New York premiere of King James, starring Glenn Davis and Abbott Elementary star Chris Perfetti. The show follows two men whose lives become intertwined through a shared admiration of basketball "King" LeBron James. Pulitzer Prize finalist Rajiv Joseph wrote the show, which previously debuted in Chicago with Steppenwolf Theatre Company, where Davis is artistic director.

The show also features Khloe Janel as the DJ. King James performances begin May 2 ahead of a May 16 opening night.

the best we could (a family tragedy) and King James join the previously announced Where the Mountain Meets the Sea and Summer, 1976 in the 2022-23 season. Additionally, the previously announced Poor Yella Rednecks, which was initially set for spring 2023, will now go up with MTC in spring 2024.
