They've got a good thing going! Tony and Emmy Award nominee Jonathan Groff and Tony winner Lindsay Mendez have joined the cast of the latest revival of Merrily We Roll Along. Off-Broadway performances are set to begin at New York Theatre Workshop November 21 ahead of a December 12 opening. The limited engagement will close January 8.

Groff and Mendez will play Franklin Shepard and Mary Flynn opposite the previously announced Daniel Radcliffe as Charley Kringas. Groff was previously seen on Broadway as King George in the original cast of Hamilton and Melchior in Spring Awakening; both roles earned him Tony nominations. Mendez has performed in Broadway shows including Wicked, Grease, and Godspell, and she won Tony and Drama Desk Awards in 2018 for playing Carrie Pipperidge in the 2018 revival of Carousel.

George Furth and Stephen Sondheim's musical traces the disintegration of the trio's friendship over 20 years as Franklin abandons his career as a composer, and his friends who also work in showbiz, to become a Hollywood producer. It is based on the the same-named 1934 play.

Maria Friedman directs the New York Theatre Workshop production, and Tim Jackson choreographs. The creative team also includes Catherine Jayes as music supervisor and Alvin Hough, Jr. as music director, with scenic and costume design by Soutra Gilmour, lighting design by Amith Chandrashaker, sound design by Kai Harada, and fight and intimacy direction by Dave Anzuelo.
