WHERE TO BUY BROADWAY TICKETS

Return to previous page
Here you will find the essential information you need for buying Broadway tickets, much of this information will also apply to tickets for the main Off-Broadway shows.

Broadway Theatre Box Office
You can buy in person direct from the theatre box office. This way you can avoid service fees, which you would have to pay if you bought Broadway tickets by telephone or online via the Internet. Each theatre has its own box office and are normally open from 12noon to 8pm. This is the cheapest way to buy Broadway tickets in advance (unless there are online theatre offers to be had!)

Broadway Tickets By Telephone
You can buy Broadway tickets by telephone, but will be subject to Service Fees as most Broadway & Off Broadway shows are handled by either Telecharge or Ticketmaster. Average service charges are about $5 to $10.

Buy tickets from the Internet
You can buy tickets online from Telecharge or Ticketmaster, who handle tickets for most Broadway & Off Broadway shows. However, there are no shows handled by both agencies. Average service charges are about $5 to $10. There are many other agencies that sell theatre tickets, called Ticket brokers, but they will charge a much higher fee anything from 40% upwards, but they can sometimes have Broadway tickets for shows when Telecharge & Ticketmaster have sold out.

TKTS booth
The TKTS booth, operated by the nonprofit Theatre Development Fund, sells Broadway tickets on the day 25% to 75% off normal price, There is a $4 per ticket service charge. (CASH ONLY!) Not all shows will be available as much depends on how well a particular show is doing. There are two TKTS booth, one in Times Square (Open: Mon to Sat 3pm - 8pm for 8pm perfs / Open: Weds and Sats 10am - 2pm for 2pm matinees / Open: Suns 11am - 7pm) ; **Lower Manhattan Theatre Centre at South Street Seaport (Open Mon - Sat 11am - 6pm for all evening perfs / Open: Suns 11am - 3.30pm (**At this tkts location only, matinee tickets must be bought the day before)

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS offers a limited number of seats priced at twice the face value of the ticket. Call (212) 840-0770, also see the following web site: www.bcefa.org

Lining up at the box office for returned tickets
If tickets are sold out you could try lining up at the box office for returned tickets. Arrive at the theatre several hours before the performance. Most of the top Broadway shows nearly always have returns, so get there early, how early depends on how successful the show is. Some people line up overnight for very popular shows!!

Ticket Scalpers
The scalpers will hang around the top theatres trying to sell you tickets.NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy from ticket scalpers. It is just too big a risk that the tickets could be stolen or forged, as well as being very expensive. I know it is tempting particularly when you are desperate to see the show, but if people would stop buying from them they would soon go out of business.
