What the critics had to say.....

BEN BRENTLEY of the NEW YORK TIMES says “The show is amusing, agreeable, forgettable - a better-than-usual embodiment of the musical for theatergoers who just want to be reminded now and then of a few of their favorite things.”
CLIVE BARNES of NEW YORK POST says “Bloody fantastic. Gorgeously silly. Superlative and better.”
HOWARD KISSEL of NEW YORK DAILY NEWS says “I could admire all the affection and ingenuity that went into adapting "Spamalot" to the stage as well as the Herculean energy the cast puts into it. I only wish I had laughed more.”
ELYSA GARDNER of USA TODAY says “Somewhere on the mythical Isle of Avalon, King Arthur is rolling over in his grave — and laughing till his armor rattles.”
GORDON COX of NEWSDAY says "Eric Idle and Mike Nichols have indeed fashioned a Holy Grail of a big, crowd-pleasing Broadway musical comedy. The show slays 'em like Excalibur."
JACQUES LE SOURD of the JOURNAL NEWS says "You can't prevent yourself from laughing even if you want to."
MICHAEL SOMMERS of STAR-LEDGER says "Zipping along at a little more than two hours, this rambunctious collection of wacky sketches and songs on a feudal theme is scarcely a great musical meant for the ages, but for the here and now, 'Spamalot' sure is a lot of fun."
MICHAEL KUCHWARA of Associated Press says "The silly season is now upon us, and there may only be one way to deal with the comic lunacy currently holding forth on stage at Broadway's Shubert Theatre. Surrender."
FRANK SCHECK of the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER says Nichols' canny, detail-filled staging keeps things rolling at a merry pace, and the proceedings, which run a mere two hours, don't wear out their welcome."
TERRY BYRNE of the BOSTON HERALD says "An exhilarating evening in the theater. Idle and Nichols' triumph is in engaging the audience in the shenanigans and sending them out of the theater whistling `Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.' "
