Q & A with Colman Domingo - Questions and Answers Interview with Colman Domingo who starred as 'Mr. Bones' in the Broadway premiere of Kander and Ebb's musical, The Scottsboro Boys, which played at the Lyceum Theatre from 7 Oct - 12 Dec 2010.

Did you go to training school, if so which one?
I studied Journalism at Temple University.
As an actor, do you have a preference for stage, tv or film?
I have a preference for good, quality work in any medium.
Your first stage performance was?
In the 4th Grade when I represented the state of New Mexico in a play about the 50 states.
Career highlight to date?
Would have to be the moment that I am living in right now. Starring in the final collaboration of a Kander and Ebb musical directed by Susan Stroman.
What roles would you most like to play?
A role where I actually sit at a table in one costume.
Whats the best advice you have ever received?
To never lose the twinkle in my eyes. To always play a bit of the fool.
What has been your most embarrassing moment on stage?
When my mic pack released itself and slid down my pants during my solo number.
What is the most annoying part about your job?
5 show weekends.
Briefly tell us how you become involved with The Scottsboro Boys?
I was handed a script from Doug Aibel, the artistic director of the Vineyard Theater. He said that I would be perfect for the role of Mr. Bones.
Briefly tell us about the character you play in The Scottsboro Boys?
I play Mr. Bones who is one of the two "end men" is a traditional minstrel show. I play many white southern bigots in Alabama in the 1930's.
If you had not become a performer, what might you have done instead?
A Photojournalist.
Who are your favorite actors/actresses?
Marion Cottilard, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Woody Allen, Kimberly Elise, Phylicia Rashad, Marian Seldes and Jim Broadbent.
If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be and what would you say to them?
I would like to meet Audrey Hepburn. I would ask her how she balanced being a style icon, well regarded actress, mother and humanitarian. I would ask her about her secret to having grace. I would tell her that I loved her spirit shining through her eyes.
Favorite after-show haunts?
Phillippe, Shake Shack, Bar Centrale and Cafe Un Deux Trois.
What was the last book you read, and name some of your favorite authors?
Last book was ALT, Andre Leon Talley's biography. I love David Sedaris, Chelsea Handler, James Baldwin, Alice Walker and Cintra Wilson.
What was the last film you saw, and name some of your favorite movies?
Last film I saw was "Eat Pray Love." I walked out. Some favorite movies include: Hanna and Her Sisters, All About Eve, The Hangover, The Color Purple, The Pianist, and Passing Strange :)
Favorite TV programs?
Mad Men, Golden Girls, Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency, The Big Gay Sketch Show.
Favorite holiday destinations?
South Beach Miami for Thanksgiving.
Do you have any hobbies?
Photography. It has become a semi profession.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what three items would you take with you?
My I phone, The largest bottle of Skyy Ginger, and a boat!
What are your future plans?
To keep on doing what I am doing. I am very happy with my present.
