Q & A with Colin Quinn who stars on Broadway in his own one-man show Colin Quinn - Long Story Short, now playing at the Helen Hayes Theatre.

Place of birth?
Brooklyn, New York.

You now live in?
Manhattan, New York.

Did you go to training school, if so which one?
I’ve studied many times with teachers. Gary Ramsey Sandra Lee, Larry Moss, Alice Spivak, HB studios.

As an actor, do you have a preference for stage, tv or film?
I have a preference for stage because it’s exciting and people can’t watch you in their underwear.

Career highlight to date?
My career highlight to date is getting to star in a movie called Who’s The Man with the House of Pain as my gang.

What roles would you most like to play?
The roles I would most like to play are Richard the 3rd and a murderer on a sitcom.

Whats the best advice you have ever received?
The best advice I ever received was when I stumbled onto a crime scene I was advised to mind my own business.

What is the most annoying part about your job?
People that give you their ideas and when you don’t take their creative suggestions they get mad.

Briefly tell us how you came to write Long Story Short?
I decided the world was closing in on me too fast to continue to ignore it.

Briefly describe your show, Long Story Short?
It’s the story of how humanity builds up and then keeps doing the thing that made them successful, even when it stops working.

If you had not become a performer, what might you have done instead?
I took the police test and I got a 96 on it, and they never called me.

Who are your favorite actors/actresses?
My favorite actors and actresses are the cast of Jersey Shore.

If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be and what would you say to them?
I would meet Albert Einstein and look him up and down and say “Huh. You don’t look so smart to me. What’s a hundred times a million?”

Favorite after-show haunts?
Favorite after show haunts Cognac Brasserie, Brooklyn Diner and Duane Reade.

What was the last book you read, and name some of your favorite authors?
Favorite book Confederacy of Dunces, and favorite new book, An Embarrassment of Riches, by Gerald Hansen.

What was the last film you saw, and name some of your favorite movies?
Favorite movies Goodfellas, On the Waterfront, In the Heat of the Night.

Favorite TV programs?
Favorite t.v. programs are NY1 weather on the 1’s

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three items would you take with you?
If I was stranded on a desert island I would take my wallet, wii bowling and a bay crane.

Colin Quinn Credits
A native of Brooklyn, Colin Quinn began his comic career in New York as a regular on the comedy circuit. Colin made his television debut as co-host of MTV’s popular game show Remote Control. Quinn landed a spot on the legendary late-night show, Saturday Night Live, where he entertained audiences for five seasons. After SNL, Quinn tackled societal issues on Tough Crowd With Colin Quinn.

Quinn’s first one-man show, Sanctifying Grace, began Off-Broadway in 1994 and was later produced as Colin Quinn – An Irish Wake and played at the Helen Hayes Theatre. Quinn was most recently seen at the Bleecker Street Theatre in the Off-Broadway run of Colin Quinn Long Story Short and in the summer comedy film Grown Ups.
