CAMERON POW

Cameron Pow

Cameron Pow is currently starring as 'Zazu' in The Lion King at the Minskoff Theatre.

Birthday is?
March 4th

Place of birth
Bridgend, Wales

Currently living in?
Midwood, Brooklyn

Did you go to training school, if so which one?
Hallum University, England. Atlantic Theatre Company School, NYC.

As an actor, do you have a preference for stage, tv or film?
I don't have a preference at this point. I'd like to do more of everything!

Your first stage performance?
Roman Soldier. Easter Story. Age 10

Career highlight to date?
Performing at the 'Royal Variety Performance 2008' at the London Palladium. This is a show I have grown up in England watching, and never imagined I could be on... in December 2008 I had the honor of performing on it with the West End cast of The Lion King.

What has been your most embarrassing moment on stage?
I once forgot my lines as Stephano in a production of 'The Tempest'. I learned that day how difficult it is to ad-lib in Shakespeare! Luckily my character is drunk, and I was using a Scottish accent... so my dialect became incredibly thick and slurred until I was back on track!

What roles would you most like to play?
I love comedy stuff & would LOVE to develop something new.... I love intelligent characters in extreme situations, or situations taken to extremes, like Yasmina Reza's plays, or Simon Pegg's 'Shaun of The dead', or TV shows like 'Extra's'.

Who are your Favourite actors?
There are so many I admire. I would have to include Peter O'Toole, Paul Giamati, Hugh Laurie, Meryl Streep, Denzel Washington and Emma Thompson to mention but a few.

What is the most annoying part about your job?
I wear a huge amount of make-up in Lion King, and I have to say the putting on and removal of it for 8 shows a week can wear you down. Sorry Marian! (my make-up artist)... nothing personal!

If you hadn’t become a performer, what might you have done instead?
I've always had a fascination with flying. I would probably be a Pilot or do something in aviation.

If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be and what would you say to them?
Cleese (Monty Python). How on earth did you manage to keep a straight face!?

Favorite after-show haunts?
I like a nice wine bar... like 'Casellula' on 52nd & 9th. Great wine & an incredible cheese menu!

Favourite books
I just finished 'Another Country' by James Baldwin which was GREAT. I also love Augusten Burroughs (Running With Scissors) and David Sedaris (Naked).

Favourite films
Impossible to answer! My top 5 would probably include 'Arthur', 'American Warewolf in London', 'Jaws', 'Dr. Strangelove', & 'Lawrence of Arabia'

Favourite TV programs
House, Roseanne, Seinfeld, The Office, Extra's, 24, Medium, Dexter

Favourite holiday destinations
For Christmas I love to be with family in England whenever possible. For vacations, I always want a different place... favorites include The Whitsundays (Australia), Jamaica and St. Thomas.

Do you have any hobbies?
I like to play guitar a little, & swim (But not at the same time.)

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three items would you take with you?
Pillow, swiss army knife, and a bottle of the finest white rum to go with the coconuts of course!

What are your future plans?
Stay healthy, be happy and create a successful career.

Do you have any superstitions?
I have no real superstitions. I think there are enough obstacles in life to overcome without adding extra stuff that could result in bad luck! But I do believe in the power of positive thinking!
