Is 'Corrina, Corrina' musical Broadway Bound?

Writer Jessie Nelson has announced in her recently updated bio that she is currently working on a musical adaptation of her 1994 film Corrina, Corrina alongside veteran Broadway and Disney composer Alan Menken, and lyricist Brian Yorkey.

Nelson directed and wrote the screenplay for the 1994 flop film of the same name which starred Whoopi Goldberg and Ray Liotta. She was also responsible for writing 'I Am Sam' and co-wrote the films 'Stepmom' and 'The Story of Us'.

Six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald is rumoured to be attached to the project, although her press representative declined to comment.

Corrina, Corrina is set in 1959 and tells the story of Manny Singer, a widower who hires Corrina, a housekeeper and nanny, to care for his grieving daughter Molly. Despite refusing to speak, with Corrina's influence Molly begins to come out of her shell and the family's life is changed forever.

Composer Alan Menken is no stranger to adapting films for the stage, and his recent musicals include the Broadway productions of 'Aladdin', 'Leap of Faith' and the upcoming 'Hunchback of Notre Dame'.
